SCAS Spotlights

December 6, 2024 In this installment of the SCAS Spotlight Virtual Speaker Series, we welcome Dr. Craig Gelpi, chief scientist with The Catalina Marine Society. His talk is entitled "Twenty Years of Catalina Marine Society Ocean Research at Catalina."

Our speaker was Dr. David Ginsburg, who is a Professor (Teaching) in the Environmental Studies Program at the University of Southern California. He gave a talk titled "Marine Species Biodiversity off Santa Catalina Island."

Our speaker was Dr. Greg Pauly, who is Director of the Urban Nature Research Center and Curator of Herpetology for the Natural History Museum. His talk was entitled "Is Community Science the Next Revolution in Conservation, Ecology, and Behavior Research?"

For the third installment in the SCAS Spotlight Virtual Speaker Series, we welcome Dr. Kristy Forsgren, a professor at CSU Fullerton. In this talk, Dr. Forsgren explores sex in the sea, especially in nearshore fishes of southern California.

In our second SCAS Spotlight Virtual Speaker Series, we are pleased to introduce Dr. Ted Stankowich, a professor at CSU Long Beach. Dr. Stankowich discusses his work in urban ecology, where he focuses on mammals that use our urban landscape as habitat.

In this presentation, Dr. Goffredi takes us on a journey through the ocean depths where she study deep sea invertebrates, their relationship to symbiotic bacteria, and their role in deep benthic ecosystems.
